The secondary caste in Xaintongeaisi culture under the Meritocratic and Esoteric Caste System, and perhaps the most flexible of the castes.
The Ton caste consists of skilled laborers, Free-soldiers, merchants, and the like. When a child tests into the Ton caste, their scores are examined for the aptitude they possess, then they are tested again based on those scores to determine how much education they require. The sole exceptions are soldiers, who are always started at the lowest tier of martial education, and False Xaintons, who are put into a track that allows them to test in whatever paths they wish as well as studies that would help them ascend to True Xainton.
A Ton soldier who comes home wounded to the point that they can no longer serve is offered either:
a few acres of land and a collection of Geais, a minimum of a dozen up to however many is needed to maintain their estate, depending on the nature of how they gained their injury, and declared an Honored Ton.
OR
Positioned in one of the branches of the Foremost Ascendant Martial Education as a Famed Ton, Honored Masters who train future Ton Soldiers.
Regardless of their choice, a Ton Soldier who is named either Honored or Famed is barred from caste fluidity, never allowed to either ascend or descend within the caste system.
