The lowest caste in Xaintongeaisi culture under the Meritocratic and Esoteric Caste System.
The Geais caste consists of unskilled laborers, formerly unskilled laborers, and Slave-Soldiers. If one scores too low to afford themselves a proper place in society, they are effectively treated as some nebulous position between serf and slave, with each prominent figure in the country, and even other countries seeing it in a different light. Geais is not allowed to own property.
When someone scores low enough to not be placed in a higher caste, the current military strength and population counts are judged and considered. From this judgement, the class is separated between the fields as farmers, urban and home environments as servants, to the military as Slave-Soldiers, and whatever limited amount remains -influenced by their scores- to be trained into very specialized but unwanted roles.
Farmers are most akin to serfs, with them placed on massive plantation fields in the north to feed the nation. Higher performing farmers could even elevate to Head Geais. Their workloads are rough, but depending on the owner of the plantation, they could have very comfortable lives that border on luxurious or they could be little more than slaves.
Servants are as the name states, servants. Cleaners, haulers, lesser cooks, and so on. They have their own hierarchy that many outsiders consider to be very much in line with how a noble's household would in any other country, save that it is spread across an entire village, city, or other civilized center. They exist either in the lord's home, or communal bunks.
Slave-Soldiers are Geais individuals who have been thrown into the Trained Assimilation for Martial Education in the shattered hold-city of Kholtyat, to either never be seen again or to return as a thing existing in the person they once were. They are considered the most unnerving of the tithe-soldiers sent to the frontlines, and if they had any sense of competition in them, would be in competition for the most efficient as well. When compared to Ton Soldiers, Slave-Soldiers have infinitely more discipline and combat ability, but they do not have the key intuitive and instinctual pieces that Ton Soldiers do, causing them to fit into a niche that requires rigid precision.
Finally, formerly unskilled laborers, known as Valued Geais, are individual Geais that are trained for unwanted specialized roles, from tanners and butchers to ritual attendants and torturers.
