The western Imperial glory. It is said some thousands of years ago, an empire united much of the continent, but fell to bloat, corruption, the freezing south east, and the sweltering desert in the north. Westfold, possessing the grand port city of Yareli on their eastern most coast -which was the capital of this ancient empire- named itself the successor state and quickly reconquered most of their eastern territories. Unfortunately, their major competitor for the successor title, Eastholm, had been given enough time to re-establish control of their side of the continent, leading to a deadlock. With Eastholm’s slowly loosening grip, the sentiment is re-absorption and rebirth of the empire now, or a reconquest after the Black Demesne is dealt with. Westfold has a heavily entrenched nobility, if it were not for multiple successive diplomatic geniuses ascending to the throne centuries prior, more breakaway states would have spawned. Now, while the nobles more or less act as freely as they wish in their domains, the emperor has generations old leashes keeping them in line. Far on their western side, about a day’s travel from the shore, there is the prestigious Camford Academy, which is based on the principles meritocracy. Unfortunately, too many third sons of nobles were installed into roles of professors, and there is a clear divide between nobility and the common born.
